Introduction

When we reviewed OCZ’s Agility 3 120GB drive a few months back we stated that the only major difference between these two drives lies within the flash memory being used where the Vertex 3 uses Intel synchronous NAND which gives it a considerable performance boost against the Agility 3.

There are 2 primary components that make up any SSD drive; namely the SSD Controller and the flash memory where data is stored. Thanks to SandForce who is today one of the main SSD controller manufacturers and the continuous R&D efforts by OCZ, we have seen phenomenal growth in the SSD industry where drive capacities and speeds have reached heights we could have not imagined before.

The Vertex range of drives can be considered the benchmark when comparing performance in their respective range and with the release of OCZ’s Vertex 3 range we are now offered with 500MB/s write and 550MB/s reads. Today we bring to you OCZ’s 120GB model of the Vertex 3 which is offered in 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 24GB and 480GB variants.  So lets take a quick look at the drive specs and move on to find out the raw capabilities of the drive.
