Introduction
The i440BX was
introduced by INTEL to support AGP 2X and 100MHz Front Side Bus
,that the 400LX boards of the time didn't support. So how did the
i440BX chipset survive over a period of more than two years in a
world where today's technology is obsolete by the end of the day?
Add to that the fact that companies like ABIT still introducing
new boards based on the i440BX chipset!! It's simply unbelievable!!
ABIT was one
of the first manufacturers to tweak the i440BX chipset by releasing
the BE6 board, which had a HighPoint Ultra ATA/66 controller. Since
the debut of the BX chipset, manufactures have tried everything
possible to enhance the BX boards to keep up with newer entrants
from INTEL and VIA.
The BE6-2 and
BF6 boards introduced the softmenu III, the jumperless overclocking
suite in the BIOS that brought up the possibility of overclocking
the FSB up to a maximum of 200MHZ in gradual 1MHz increments.
Having seen
all possible tweaks already done on i440BX based boards & with new
releases from INTEL, we thought that the BX era would quietly die
away. And since features like AGP 4X are necessarily functions of
the chipset what more could ABIT have possible done? Well hold on
to your guns folk cause the BX-133-RAID comes with a whole load
of new features!
