XIGMATEK HDT-S963 in detail The HDT S963 came to us in a relatively simple plain white box with a clear cover on top.
The cooler comes with the following components. • HDT-S936 Cooler with a 92mm fan installed
Taking a closer look at the cooler you see the base is made of up three copper heatpipes secured together with an aluminum plate. Something out of the ordinary is that the base isn’t completely smooth as other CPU coolers on the market. As you can see there are small gaps between the copper heat pipes and the aluminum plate. The important factor however is the part that touches to CPU and dissipates the heat, so we will see how well it performs in our tests. Moving the heatpipes right to the base however is a good thing as it gives direct contact with the CPU for fast and more efficient heat dissipation. (At least theoretically)
The HDT S963 measures in at a height of 134mm and weighs only 410grams with the fan. The included fan is a 92mm one with an airflow rating of 39~54.6 CFM. The power connector for the fan has 4 pins in contrast to the 3 pin design in older fans. This introduces a feature known as pulse-width modulation which creates a cleaner voltage to the fan thus making the fan work more efficiently.
