Introduction In light of our latest review, the Prometeia cooling system, one thing we didn't mention is that, to ensure good overclockability you also need decent hardware components for your PC. No matter how well you cool your CPU (Even below sub zero temperatures), if the rest of your hardware isn't up to the mark no overclocking project would be very fruitful at all. Some of the most common hardware to fail during overclocking is Memory, Graphic cards, USB controllers, PCI cards etc. To overcome this problem you need to get components that have been designed to work at higher speeds than the norm. Today we bring to you one such device, it's called Xtreme DDR and these memory types have been specifically tested for extreme overclocking. If you read our Crucial PC2700 DDR review it's easy to realize that these modules aren't the greatest when it comes to hardcore overclocking. So what is Xtreme DDR? Here's an extract taken from the Xtreme DDR manufacture. "XtremeDDR memory products are what gamers and PC enthusiasts have been seeking. XtremeDDR takes pre-manufactured memory such as Samsung and tests each module for the highest possible stability. No gimmicks here folks. Tired of buying memory to find out it just barely does the minimum? Well XtremeDDR takes out the worries and puts in the performance. Each stick is hand tested for the highest performance. With such attention to each stick, availability is very scarce and rather should be. Do you want rushed products? If so then look somewhere else. You want the best pre-tested memory? Then look for the XtremeDDR labeling. It's just as simple as that" As you can see, Xtreme DDR is currently the top notch memory product you can lay your hands on. There's very high demand for them, and as such no sooner they reach the shelves they are gone. Silver bullet pc was kind enough to send us this module for testing. If you plan on buying Xtreme DDR in the near future I would surely recommend them since the price they're offered at is significantly better than what's offered by most other vendors. Currently the approved memory standard is PC2700 by JEDEC, which
operates at 333MHz to support the KT333 chipsets. The overclocked
versions of these come in PC3000 rated at 366MHz and PC3200 which
are rated at 400MHz. As you can imagine, these offer a great deal
of freedom to overclock. Also note that Xtreme DDR memory will not
function on all mainboards as they aren't an official standard yet.
Check out this
page to see if your board is listed. If your board is not listed
it does not exactly mean that the board will not support Xtreme DDR,
however it's a chance you'll have to take if that's the case. |
