Introduction

The rat race for the search of extreme performance is a never ending battle for hardware manufactures. One company comes up with a really radical solution and before you even blink an eye, presto!!! Another company comes with a solution which is better to the first, and the cycle just keeps on going. Memory is one of the main areas where this cut throat competition is really fierce.

The introduction of DDR SDRAM was just the leap manufactures were looking for to really boost this market once more. Within just a couple of months we noticed the introductions of PC1600 DDR, PC2100 DDR, PC2700 DDR and today some of the newest memory to enter the market in this genre is XMS 3300 DDR memory.

For those who need to refresh their memory on DDR take a look at our Crucial PC2100 DDR review for more information. The main rivalry between AMD and Intel has resulted in us having two different memory standards. While AMD has made DDR SDRAM their standard choice of memory for their platforms, Intel has decided to go with more bandwidth intensive RAMBUS. Intel's decision to go with RAMBUS is most probably to attract the high profile power user who would like to make use of the extra bandwidth available.

Crucial Memory's PC2700 DDR was introduced only a couple of months ago after JEDEC approved the DDR333 (PC2700 DDR) standard. Therefore these modules are fully complaint with the DDR333 standard.

Crucial technology a division of Micron is renowned for their high quality memory products. Almost all of their memory products seem to have very impressive overclocking ability and at the same have proven to be highly stable under these conditions.

The Crucial 256MB PC2700 DDR module we bring to you today is rated at 333MHz, and has a Cas Latency of 2.5. The memory chips are arranged in a 32MB x 64 array form. First lets take a look at the specs of the module given by Crucial.
