The Speakers

The Front Speakers

The front speakers are what give this system the look of a high-end home theatre system. The moment you see the speakers you realize these mean business even though they don't carry the power of a home theatre system. The front speakers consist of 3 drivers, two of which are 3" drivers and one 1" tweeter. As mentioned before these have a height of around 4 -4.5 feet; the speakers are placed on the top 40cm section while the bottom part is merely there for the look. The speakers are enclosed in a triangle sort shape and as you can see it's fully black.

Front speakers from a top view

The speakers are rated at 20Watts RMS, which is very impressive considering these use only two 3" and one 1" driver. The feedback these speakers are able to generate is very impressive indeed. You really cannot say that the sound is produced by mere 3" drivers, it's that good. I'll be dealing with sound issues later on in more detail.

The rear speakers

The rear speakers are rated at 20Watts RMS as well. However they have only two drivers in them; one 3" driver and a 1" tweeter. It's basically the same design as the front speakers, except for the one less driver. You can opt to wall mount the rear speakers if you do wish, but then you'll have to come up with some design to hold them there.

The Center speaker

The center speaker is placed in the control box and it's also rated at 20RMS. The center channel consists of again two drivers; one 3" driver and another 1.5" tweeter. It's certainly a very intelligent thing to combine both the control box and the center channel into one unit since you need the control box close to you for audio adjustments and you place to center channel in the center, which is mostly likely in front of you.

The Subwoofer

The sub is no doubt the main highlights of this system. As the specs say, the sub thumps out a whooping 100RMS of brand spanking power. The sub weighs close to 30Kg, so it's incredibly heavy. It includes an amplifier which is connected to an 8" Bass driver. The sub is amazingly well designed and the moment you look at it, you realize this thing means business. The speaker is placed facing the ground and the opening is at the front as you can see in the pictures. If you have a bad back, don't every try to lift this alone; 30Kg is not a light weight at all.

All the speakers are connected to the rear output connectors of the sub. The Din connector from the control box connects to the sub, feeding in the music

The Control Box and Remote

The control box is where you send the decoded music into. If you don't have a decoder then you won't be able to use 5.1 surround sound. The newer models of the J9940 series include Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding built into the control unit, but it's not included in this. The Control unit has basic controls such as Volume, Bass (Subwoofer), Center, and surround sound controls, and of course power on/off and a mute button.

Rear inputs on control unit

The supplied remote is used for the same functions as above. Jazz speakers also include batteries for the remote so you don't even need to buy them to get started. The remote is small and sleek, which matches the overall system.

Alright now to the tests!!! Time to find out how well this baby performs.
