The Synology DS207 in Detail The Synology DS207 comes in a very attractive packaging with an easy to carry handle. It’s well protected internally to avoid any damage during shipping. The packaging gives a good detail of the myriad of features the DS207 offers to give the potential buyer a good idea what’s on offer.
In addition to the DS207 the package consists of a software CD, Power Adapter, Network Cable, cables to connect two SATA drives, User manual and screws. The drives you see in the picture are not included so you will have to get your own drives for this unit. We opted for two 250 SATA II Drives. The DS207 supports upto a maximum of 1.5 Terra Bytes of storage, so depending on your requirements opt for two suitable drives. Synology also has a list of suitable drives which you can use as a guide if required. Click here for details
Taking a closer look at the front of the DS207 you see four indicator lights (two for the drives, LAN and Status), a USB port to either connect a USB Printer or USB storage device, USB copy button and Power switch. The copy button allows the contents of an external USB drive to be copied to the DS207 at the click on a button. Looking at the rear of the rear of the unit, you see the cooling fan, two USB ports, the Gigabit Ethernet port, reset button and the power input. The reset button is there in case you forget the admin password and you want to reset to default settings. I wish the 60mm cooling fan was a bit more efficient in its cooling as the thermal sensors were reporting somewhat high temperatures for the drives after continuous use.
