The Benefits of DVD : A guide to DVD hardware and DVD software

So is it all worth it

What ever said and done the final question all of you out there would want to know is, " is it all worth it". Well this is really a very subjective matter. It all depends on what you get and your justification on whether to spend so much for a DVD drive. Some would enjoy the DVD experience immensely yet some would never be satisfied. However what we can say is that get the correct hardware as we have mentioned above and you are sure to enjoy it. Further more don't think of this as a short-term investment since the future is sure going to be on DVD physics and not CD ROM. And if you are not on a tight budget I suggest you go for the best stuff since otherwise you might regret it later on. Considering the fact that a good DVD drive and a MPEG2 decoder board will cost under the $300 mark it's quite worth going for it rather than spending over $500 for the Set Top DVD Player. Since you also can use the DVD drive to read CD's, Audio CD's, CD RW's, I really don't see why not you go for one since you don't loose anything by switching over to a DVD drive. Performance of the DVD drives may be on the slower side when compared with high end CD ROM's, however when compared to what you get I really wouldn't worry much on that.

If you are a person who watches movies ones in a blue moon or so I wouldn't recommend you get a DVD drive since it's not at all worth it. You'll most likely make use of the DVD drives' CD ROM features rather than using it to its full potential. Therefore I suggest you think twice before you get a drive since spending around $200 is no joke and buying a drive and not making good use of it will be one heck of a waste. Remember one more factor if you really are keen on getting a DVD drive, get your self a good sound system or you'll really regret it. As I have mentioned before having a good sound system will add a totally new dimension into your DVD experience. MidiLands S4 8200 5.1 surround sound speaker system is a great bargain for the budget-concerned buyer.
