Installation
and specifications
Installing a DVD drive is pretty straight forward if you are no
amateur. Nevertheless if you are not so familiar with the insides
of your computer just follow the following steps.
- First of all you have to configure the jumper settings of
your DVD drive. Your DVD drive should be set to slave position.
- Find a vacant 5.25-inch half-height drive bay and slide in
the drive and secure it.
- Then connect the IDE data cable to the drive. The colored
edge of the data cable should correspond with the pin1 of the
DVD drive.
- The final step of hooking up the drive is to connect the
IDE data cable to one of the IDE channels of your motherboard.
Your motherboard should have two IDE channels, one primary and
a secondary channel. The hard drive is attached to the primary
channel and most probably your CD ROM would be connected to
the secondary channel. Connect the DVD drive to the same cable
to which you your CD ROM is attached. If its already occupied
by a ZIP drive or any similar component, connect the DVD drive
to the same cable to which your hard drive is connected.

Next is installing the MPEG2 Decoder Card. There's nothing more
to it than just finding a free PCI slot and inserting the card to
it. Some PCI slots may be shared by ISA devices as well, so make
sure you use one that's not been shared by other devices.

The initial steps of installing your DVD drive is now complete.
Next we have to hook up the audio and video cables to the relevant
slots. If you are a first timer take a good look at the manual before
you put your hands into this one.
Now comes one of the most important factors that should be taken
into consideration in order to enjoy a good feeling from your DVD
kit. i.e. setting up the sound system and your TV.
